The transition to adulthood for Individuals with Autism is frequently referred to as “falling off the cliff.” After 21, Individuals diagnosed with Autism lose their special education services and may struggle to find effective support, meaningful employment, and accessible activities that foster happiness and overall quality of life. Due to this, the creation of comprehensive, individualized transition plans are of the utmost importance. In this webinar, transition assessments, development of transition plans, and implementation of transition related programs will be described. The specific goal areas of a transition plan including home, community, social, and leisure will be reviewed to provide a guide to programming for Individuals ages 14+. Strategies to find and attain vocational sites will also be discussed along with tips on how to ensure successful experiences at these sites.
