Language and Communication

At BAC, there is a strong emphasis on teaching language and communication for all students. After identifying specific goal areas for each student, we use discrete trial training (DTT), natural environment teaching, and incidental teaching to strengthen language development and generalize across all environments. 

Language and communication goals focus around the core areas of verbal behavior including: (1) making requests (manding), imitating the language of others (echoics), commenting on the environment (tacting), and engaging in other conversational skills (intraverbals). 

Students who require augmentative communication may be provided with an iPad to learn this alternative mode of communication.  BAC staff are experienced with the programming and use of augmentative communication devices and are knowledgeable about the most effective applications.  Parents of students who are using augmentative communication devices will be trained to implement the use of the device in the home.
